PostDoctoral Position in Galaxy Formation and Evolution at the Astronomical Observatory of Trieste (INAF - OATs)
INAF - Astronomical Observatory of Trieste
(INAF-OATs) invites applications for a post-doctoral research position
in the field of galaxy formation and evolution. The research project
will be carried out in the framework of a project funded by the MERAC
foundation, and will focus on the development of an available
hierarchical galaxy formation model with emphasis on the modelling of
star formation and stellar feedback. The project will likely include
the analysis of available hydrodynamical simulations.
Additional information and enquiries about the scientific project can be addressed to Gabriella De Lucia: delucia[at]oats.inaf.it
A copy of the announcement and of the application form (see Annex I), can be found here.
Candidates should have obtained a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or equivalent degree (or a degree in physics or astronomy plus three years of documented experience in scientific activities). Previous experience with the research subject and a good knowledge of the programming language C/C++ will be an advantage. Applications should be sent by e-mail (when possible with acknowledgement of receipt) to inafoatrieste[at]pcert.postecert.it, and in copy to delucia[at]oats.inaf.it no later than April 30th, 2014. The application should include: the application form signed and dated, a curriculum vitae signed and dated by the applicant and including a list of grants and fellowships held and a list of publications, a copy of a valid identity document and a research statement (max four pages). Note that applications will be rejected if: submitted after the deadline; the application form is incomplete and/or unsigned; the CV is unsigned; there is no copy of a valid identity document. Any question or doubt can be addressed to Gabriella De Lucia.
The applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to inafoatrieste[at]pcert.postecert.it and in copy to delucia[at]oats.inaf.it by the same deadline.
The appointment is for two years, with a possible extension depending on funding availability and performance, and can start as early as October 1st, 2014. The annual gross salary will be 29,640 EUR, more than adequate for local costs of living. Travel funds will be available.
The area of Trieste offers a rich scientific environment which includes the University of Trieste and Udine, SISSA, INFN, and ICTP. It also offers good computer facilities and access to supercomputer resources.
