Two PostDoctoral Positions at the Astronomical Observatory of Trieste (INAF - OATs)
INAF-Trieste Astronomical Observatory (INAF-OATs) invites applications for two post-doctoral research positions, as detailed below. The initial appointment for both positions is for two years, with a possible extension depending on funding availability and performance. Further information on the openings and about the application procedure can be found at the links given below. In case of any doubt/question, please do not hesitate to contact me at gabriella.delucia@inaf.it
1. One position entitled “Neutral hydrogen as a cosmological probe:
unlocking the full potential of the SKA Observatory”. The activities that
will be carried out as part of the fellowship will include: (i) Generation of
mock catalogues based on the GAEA theoretical model of galaxy formation,
including prescriptions for the radio continuum and an explicit modelling of
the 21 cm line; (ii) Analysis of the cosmological information that can be
extracted from the cross-correlation signal between intensity mapping and the
spatial distribution of galaxies selected using different techniques; (iv)
Analysis of synergies and complementarities with different experiments, in
particular Euclid.
The research will be carried out under the supervision of Dr. Gabriella De
Lucia and in collaboration with other members of the SKA Cosmology Science
Working Group. Additional information and inquiries about the scientific
project can be addressed
to gabriella.delucia@inaf.it . A

instructions on the application procedure, can be found at:

325/2024)
The deadline for application is: February 15, 2024 .
2. One position entitled “Simulating the formation of the Most
Massive Structures of the Universe”. The activities that will be carried
out as part of the fellowship include: (i) Definition and realization of
hydrodynamical and N-body simulations of the formation of galaxy clusters and
proto-clusters; (ii) Use of the GAEA theoretical model of galaxy formation for
the characterization of systems that can be identified using different
observational techniques and for studies of their evolution.
The research will be carried out under the supervision of Dr. Alex
Saro, and in collaboration with other researchers at INAF-OATs. Additional
information and inquiries about the scientific project can be addressed
to alexandro.saro@inaf.it . A link to the
announcement and to the application form, as well as detailed instructions on
the application procedure, can be found at:

The deadline for application is: January 31st, 2024 .
Both appointments are expected to begin in autumn 2024, but the precise
starting date is negotiable. The initial appointments are for two years, with a
possible extension depending on funding availability and performance. The
annual gross salary will be 30,000 EUR, that is more than adequate for local
costs of living. Travel funds will be available.
The area of Trieste offers a rich scientific environment which includes the
University of Trieste and Udine, SISSA, INFN, ICTP, and IFPU. It also offers
good computer facilities and access to supercomputer resources.
INAF-OATs is an Affirmative Action Institution. Women, Minorities, and
Disabled Persons are encouraged to apply.
