Job offer

A new postdoctoral position (Assegno di Ricerca) of two years on "Simulations for Galaxy Clustering Cosmology with Euclid: control of systematic effects" is offered at the University of Trieste within the project “Space-based cosmology with Euclid: the role of High-Performance Computing”. The position is funded through a PRIN-PNRR 2022 grant.

The hired postdoc will join the Trieste LSS group, including Pierluigi Monaco, Emiliano Sefusatti, Stefano Borgani, Matteo Viel and many others. The project will be carried out in the context of Euclid Consortium and of Italian Center for SuperComputing (ICSC) and will consist in running and analyzing simulations of large-scale structure traced by galaxies, with the aim of maximizing the scientific return of Euclid. In particular, control of systematic effects in the measurement of galaxy clustering, that Euclid will produce in the next year, will require the analysis of a large set of simulations of the galaxy spectroscopic sample, on which known or potential systematic effects will be imprinted. These simulated catalogs will then be processed with the official data analysis pipeline. The result will be to quantify the uncertainty in the process of mitigation of systematic effects, so as to propagate this uncertainty to cosmological parameter inference. For the simulations we will utilize the code PINOCCHIO, and part of the work may consist in contributing to the development of this code. Part of this work may be published as a paper in a key project of the Euclid Consortium, or as a Key Science Project of ICSC.

Applicants will submit their applications through the PICA system at this link. For any problem please contact pierluigi.monaco@inaf.it. The candidates are also requested to arrange for two reference letters, to be sent to the email address below.

Deadline for application is 16 December. The interviews will start soon after, and the selection procedure will be ideally completed by the end of 2023. The contract should start no later than 1 March 2024.
