Abstract:
The aim of the VObs is the deployment of tools, systems and organisational structures to allow transparent use of world-wide astronomical archives as an integrated and interoperating infrastructure. The focus is on access to multi-wavelength data and ease of use: the concept is that astronomical data are to be "just a click away". The Virtual Observatory has recently obtained international recognition as an essential infrastructure for the international exploitation of astronomical data and the development of a new type of science. Within the VObs framework, applications are available to combine data and perform visualisation and basic analysis. The VObs is now moving from the implementation to the deployment phase. The final goal is to provide the community with an integrated facility combining data, network, computing power and science applications.
