Abstract I discuss the origin and evolution of magnetic fields in the context of galaxy form\
ation.
Radio observations reveal the presence of magnetic fields within almost every galaxy and vast regio\
ns of the IGM.
Three crucial questions arise in the understanding of the evolution of these magnetic fields:
How, when and where are magnetic seed fields created?
How are the seeds amplified on small-scales to equipartition values?
How are the fields re-organized and transported onto larger scales?
Recent numerical MHD simulations and analytical toy-models started to give us some preliminary answ\
ers.
I present results from cosmological simulations performed with the Gadget3 code.
In the simulations, the seed field is assumed to be either of a global primordial or a local stella\
r origin.
Afterwards, the process of galaxy formation naturally leads to a growth and redistribution of the f\
ields.
At last, i will discuss the possible effects of an additional non-thermal cosmic ray pressure compo\
nent.
