Title:
AGB stars and the properties of the Magellanic Clouds and M33

Abstract:
Evolved giant stars constitute an important part in the evolution of
galaxies. As members of local galaxies, these stars can be observed in
great detail and provide valuable information on the distribution of
metallicity and age as well as an indication of the chemical
enrichment of the host galaxy.
In this presentation I will show the results obtained on the
Magellanic Cloud galaxies from large scale surveys performed in the
last decade and I will describe the expectation from upcoming new
surveys. I will also present a recent study of the M33 galaxy in the
context of expanding the methodology to other galaxies of the Local
Group and to more distant galaxies for which evolved stars will be
targeted using other and future facilities.
