Title:
Planck: the scanning strategy
***********************************************************
Abstract: The observations of the anisotropies of the Cosmic
Microwave Background have achieved tremendous advances in the last
decade. The European Space Agency Planck satellite mission, to be
launched in 2007, represents the next generation experiment. Its aim
is not only to map the whole sky with unprecedented resolution and
sensitivity, but also to achieve accurate measurements of both
temperature and polarization CMB anisotropy angular power spectra. In
this talk, I will briefly present the Planck mission and its
characteristics, and I will focus on the description of the scanning
strategy in which the Planck telescope will observe the microwave
sky. I will explain what the constraints on the possible observation
strategies are, and the respective advantages and drawbacks of
these. Finally, I will describe the current baseline strategy which
has been chosen for Planck.
