Title:
The shapes of disks and bulges in cluster galaxies of different morphological types
***********************************************************
Abstract:
We analyzed the 2-d surface-brightnesses of more than 2000 galaxies in
ENACS clusters (z <~ 0.1), by applying a GIM2D bulge-disk
decomposition to the R-band CCD-images of these galaxies. Since all
galaxies were also morphologically classified, the shapes of both
components could be studied as a function of galaxy type. There appear
to be systematic differences between the properties of both bulges and
disks in ellipticals and non-ellipticals. We attempt to understand our
results in terms of ideas about the formation of bulges, and about the
formation, destruction and possible rebuilding of disks.
