Title:
Characteristics of newly discovered super-short solar radio-bursts
***********************************************************
Abstract:
For more than 40 years solar radio spikes in the decimeter
wavelength range were considered to be the bursts of the shortest
duration and the narrowest spectral width among all types of solar
radio emission (Benz 1989, Fleishman & Melnikov 1998). Using
single frequency data with high time resolution (1ms) (recorded at
the Trieste Astronomical Observatory), I have found solar
radio bursts that are 2 - 10 times shorter than spikes. Solar origin
of this newly found super-short structures (SSSs) is confirmed by
one-to-one identification of individual SSSs in Trieste single
frequency data and in the fast dynamical spectra recorded by the
Artemis-IV (new instrument of the Athens University). The analysis
reveals a number of different morphological categories that are
classified as: simple broad-band, simple narrow-band, and complex
SSSs. Characteristics of SSSs constituting a particular zebra
pattern in two events related to flares in the same active region
will be also presented.
