Abstract:
The metallicity of galaxies is a powerful tracer of their integrated star formation history. Thanks to recent, extensive spectroscopic surveys of high redshift galaxies and active galactic nuclei (AGNs), it is now possible to investigate the metallicity evolution of these objects through the cosmic ages. I will review some of the recent work in this field, and I will discuss the implications within the context of galaxy evolution. Star forming galaxies show a significant metallicity evolution in the redshift range 0 ***********************************************************
