Title:
SN1987A: the birth of a supernova remnant
Date: Monday, October 27th, 2008
Time: 12:00
Venue: Villa Bazzoni

Abstract:
21 years after its discovery, SN1987A has now entered its supernova
remnant phase, in which most of its radiation comes, not from the
explosion debris, but from the impact of this debris with its
circumstellar matter. SNR1987A is now rapidly increasing in brightness,
with a doubling timescale of roughly two years. In this seminar, I will
describe what we are learning about this event from imaging and
spectroscopic observations at radio, IR, optical, and X-ray wave bands.
