Abstract: Semi-analytical models are becoming increasingly sophisticated. The recent model by Guo et al. extends well into the dwarf galaxy regime. It includes strong supernova feedback, slow gas stripping of satellite galaxies, and satellite galaxy disruption, thus attempting to address problems that were identified in earlier models. However, it seems to produce low mass galaxies that are too red at z=0, and the low mass end of the mass function seems to be built up too quickly. It is therefore interesting to compare the observed properties of dwarf galaxies to this new model in some detail, to understand better where our understanding of low mass galaxy formation and evolution is still insufficient. I present results on a comparison between the properties of dwarf galaxies in nearby clusters and in the field, and discuss the potential implications of the identified discrepancies.
