GRASIL (which stands for GRAphite and SILicate),
is a code to compute the spectral evolution of stellar systems taking
into account the effects of dust, which absorbs and scatters optical
and UV photons and emits in the IR-submm region. Of
course it may be used as well to do “standard” no-dust stellar
spectral synthesis.
The code is under continuous development but yet very well calibrated and applied to interpret galaxies at different redshifts. Follow the links below to find out more information about GRASIL, in particular to download executables and learn how to run it.
GRASIL can now be very conveniently run on local machines using our GALSYNTH WEB interface. After you know what GRASIL does, have a look to the help on GALSYNTH and register (just name and email) to get immediate access.
If you use GRASIL to produce scientific work, we kindly ask you to reference the original GRASIL paper Silva, L., Granato, G.L., Bressan, A., Danese, L., 1998, ApJ, 509, 103 .

Our
original model is described in the paper Silva, L., Granato, G.L., Bressan, A., Danese, L., 1998, ApJ, 509, 103.
More
details on GRASIL and applications are in Laura's PhD thesis (SISSA, Trieste, October 1999).
Further
GRASIL updates and descriptions are in: Bressan, Silva, Granato 2002, A&A,
392, 377 (radio emission); Panuzzo et al. 2003, A&A, 409, 99 (nebular
emission); Silva et al. 2003, RMxAC, 17, 93 (X-ray emission- work in
progress); Vega et al. 2005, MNRAS, 364, 1286 (PAH
updated). Further several improvements we performed will be published (hopefully!) soon.
